Launch and reception shaft

At the location where in future the Oosterweel link will be entrenched, the utility and drainage channels had to be relocated and lowered. This included, among others, 3 major Aquafin water pipelines, the Schijn/Schelde-link and a number of sewage systems. 

Soetaert made large, deep launch and reception shafts with an excavation depth of 26 metres using the diaphragm wall technique. In between pump and collection pits, at a depth of 25 metres, tunnels were drilled through which the utility lines were drawn. At this depth, the works could be executed without causing nuisance to the environment. As a result, the future Oosterweel link will have no trouble whatsoever to go underground here.
